    Fridge/Freezer clean out soup

Fridge/freezer clean out soup. This one featured homegrown chicken and homemade chicken stock, as well as wild rice, cabbage, carrots, celery, onions, garlic, bay leaves, salt and pepper. I have carpal tunnel and chopping is sometimes difficult for me, so I bought this awesome chopper from Amazon that really helps a lot on days when my hands don’t want to work for me. Check it out, it saves a ton of time, too!

    Bringing the cows home

We brought both groups of cows home a couple of weeks ago and it’s always my favourite day of fall. I love having my girls at home! We got another two weeks of grazing before the snow came, but hopefully we’ll get some more good grazing days with the warm temperatures predicted this week.

    Canning Day

Today was a canning day. 24.5 cups of raspberry jam, 21 cups of rhubarb jam, and 15 cups of applesauce. We also painted the kitchen this week! The colour is Aruba from Sico with an eggshell finish. It’s an improvement over the bright yellow it used to be!

    BEEF JERKY

The perfect snack for a busy life! Great to include with your field meals as a hearty snack. I use ground beef. We had to put a bull down a couple years back, and we had him processed into ground beef. Waste not, want not! Ever since, I’ve been turning him into delicious things like beef jerky! If you ask me, it’s a crime to turn delicious steak into jerky. The secret to making this work with ground meat is a jerky gun. Mix your spices into the meat as per the directions on the package of jerky spice. I pick up pre-mixed jerky spice and cure packages from places…

With the machine running, slowly drizzle in the oil. Process until the mixture is well blended but still has some texture, scrape down the sides as necessary. Store leftover pesto in the refrigerator, covered, for up to one week. You can also freeze pesto – I like to use an ice cube tray lined with plastic wrap. Once…
