Chicken Saddles

Chicken saddles protect a hen’s back from roosters.

What’s a chicken saddle? A chicken saddle protects the hen’s back from the rooster’s claws and spurs during breeding. If your girls are losing feathers due to an amorous rooster, a saddle can help prevent further feather loss and injury. Sometimes they are also called chicken aprons or hen saddles or hen aprons.

Chicken saddles are made to order on demand. I make them in my smoke-free home, from new indoor/outdoor upholstery fabric, so they are made to last for years and years. No thin cotton here! These saddles are also free from dangerous embellishments, such as lace, that chickens can get their toes caught in.

Standard sized saddles are $10 each or 5 for $45. Shipping is $3 on up to 6 saddles via regular Canada Post. Payments can be sent by etransfer to albertafarmlife@gmail.com, please include the number of saddles you will require as well as your mailing address.

You can also purchase these saddles through Hallwachs Farm Supplies in Bonnyville.

Medium (leghorn size), bantam (silkie size), and turkey saddles are also available.

You can specify your favourite colours and I will do my best to fulfill those, or if you don’t specify, you’ll get a mixed selection chosen by me. Fabric availability will vary, so even if you see a fabric here that you like, it might not be in stock currently.
